For over 100 years, Community Covenant Church has been part of Boston's MetroWest community, first in Milford and now in Hopkinton. We are a diverse blend of people; some have attended Community Covenant since childhood, and others have just recently moved into the community. So whether you have lived here long enough to acquire a Boston accent or not, you will receive a warm welcome at Community Covenant Church in Hopkinton.
The Evangelical Covenant Church has its roots in historical Christianity as it emerged in the Protestant Reformation, in the biblical instruction of the Lutheran State Church of Sweden, and in the great spiritual awakenings of the nineteenth century. These three influences have in large measure shaped its development and are to be borne in mind in seeking to understand its distinctive spirit.
Originally known as "Mission Friends", the Evangelical Covenant Church places a great emphasis on mission work. Initial mission work in the Congo and Russia have resulted in more Covenanters in the Congo that in the entire United States. Today Covenant Missionaries are involved in dozens of countries on five continents, often working in partnership with other mission agencies.
In our post-Christian world we also recognize that our own country is a mission field. In response, the Evangelical Covenant Church in the United States is presently either planting a new church or helping existing congregation to restart at a rate of one per week. We were one such congregation which was born in Milford, Massachusetts in 1907, moved to Hopkinton in 1974, and began a restart program in 1997 with twenty-five attending members and friends! Today we are a thriving deeply rooted congregation with an outward vision for ministry which begins with internal transformations made possible only by God’s Spirit.
